@hyvaelama Isn’t the Innovation train such an example and platform?

The first step would mean that decision makers become participants. Open innovation isn't an event but more like an ongoing learning process. There are personal challenges, organizational obstacles and legal barriers to open and participatory innovation. Linus Thorwalds was interviewed by Bettin S. a few days ago, and the message was clear: he continues with the same project he once started. The word project implies that there is a "start" and a "stop" but it seems it's more like a life long learning. The Innovation Train could be a starting point for those who would like to meet the crowd - and probable intelligence of the masses.

@visualradio The problem is probably that the decision makers don´t still think that we represent the normal web users or any other normal mass. We are as they think "the early adopters" and so we have no knowledge of normal web using habits. I hope they soon learn that it will very soon turn to this kind of discussion ( as in Qaiku) and they should be prepared.

@oaw It seems, it takes years before this (Qaiku) becomes mainstream. In the meantime, I guess we need to move forward with hybrid open-closed concepts. I see some "early signals" (weak signals) of acceptance in the traditional industry, but the openness we're talking about (Open Innovation) is both scaring and close to disgusting for most of the "middle of the road" companies - and that means a great majority - most likely 95 % of them. However, I'm not disturbed by that. Some innovations and innovators are accepted long after the death of the activists. My best guess is that we're going to see a dramatic shift in the coming ten years. Personally, I'd hope to see it happening faster. But i don't think that the world needs to revolve around my narcissist wishes, hopes and dreams ;) The innovation train is slowly moving to the station...

@visualradio I hope always that "the Future" is here tomorrow. I have had my difficulties in accepting all you told. But I have had to accept the sluggishness of the Change.
Meanwhile you could change the estimated date of the Train to Jan 2010 in FB, so that those still there remain.

@oaw I will do that when I return to the south. My schedule has been quite mobile for the past weeks and I need to do some catch-up. Some early birds might feel de-motivated when the train doesn't move according to initial schedule. However, the innovation train is more like marathon and sprinters might get bored. Finns have a saying "Karavaani kulkee ja koirat haukkuu". Sorry, there was a typo. We shouldn't be impatient. We should have a skype discussion one day to compare notes in everything that concerns the Innovation Train. You're a very persistent person. I discovered that a a very early time. We need more people with your caliber. Have a great day. We start early tomorrow from Kainuu to Itä-Uusimaa. Hope talk with you soon.

@hyvaelama Sure! Actually, at COSS we've already started planning an event for the management people and decision makers for the next year. It would be an invitation-only event and focus would be on possibilities of open source solutions and open standards and presenting Finnish open source vendors.

But technology is only one part of the whole openess and events focusing on other areas (open innovation, open data etc.) are also needed. Some of the topics should be targeted to the public sector but some would suit for the businesses too.
