p2p desing - nice sounding term

matnel commented on posted to #OPEN2009 06.11.2009 (en)

troppone

Complex open p2p systems can solve complex problems => thus this is interesting.

troppone commented on posted to #OPEN2009 06.11.2009 (en)

matnel

Mmm, mmm, does he approach open from open source? Or, am I still a bit too lost. OS communities can handle complex systems, thus...

matnel commented on posted to #OPEN2009 06.11.2009 (en)

matnel

Is complexity good?

No, it's not - it allows choices and thus opportunities

open tools + open process = enabling open systems

process

  • people (social network)
  • platform (rules, roles, ...)
  • collaborational mode

Open p2p process is more complicated that closed proprietary process:http://www.jlcarneiro.com/images/blog... vs http://kde-files.org/CONTENT/content-...

Hmm... Can the society cope with openess? What threads could you see as open becomes more popular?

matnel commented on posted to #OPEN2009 06.11.2009 (en)

@juhak: I remember the electric car community discussing their car project as a service at some point.

@juhak: with a licence that allows certain things

matnel commented on posted to #OPEN2009 06.11.2009 (en)

pe3

@juhak: if i remember it correctly the idea was that you could see the movement (community, events, digital tools, car prototype, digital documents, social connections,...) as a service - the car is just a byproduct

Many people are creating different tools for similar things, should there be a push to try to create a more common platform?

Reinikainen

I would be careful at relying on local governments as the source of funding, we are notoriously risk averse institutions, and there is still a great perception of risk in investing in open design processes.

Reinikainen commented on posted to #OPEN2009 06.11.2009 (en)

troppone

@matnel Yep. This of course is at the very core of open source issues.

Again, going back on previous stuff, a lot (certainly not all) of business, funding, etc. is based on creating new tools, software, etc. for proprietary purposes, companies don't e.g. see it fair to help others by releasing stuff or contributing to OS projects...even if it could help them (and their competitors); but the same is true for other (non.company) funding too.

@pe3 brought up the interesting idea, that e.g. in eCars, designers should think about "designing the movement", not the car. Did I get it right?!

I created new thread if open can success

teroheiskanen

@pe3 thx for the wake up ping, I was on the move this morning.

open money and non-monetary collaboration coming up in every corner, you say. Doesn't suprise at all. Where is open there is self-organizing ande where is self-organizing there is no role for traditional money.

teroheiskanen commented on posted to #OPEN2009 06.11.2009 (en)

ubiq

@troppone I'm a novice with SNA still =) @Reinikainen as @matnel said, Ucinet is de facto standard software (like Photoshop in digital imaging), but it has quite high learning curve on the beginning. For OS X, there is Agna which is quite user-friendly. One quite comprehensive list of SNA tools is in Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_n...
