The dollar should be replaced with a global currency, the United Nations has said, proposing the biggest overhaul of the world's monetary system since the Second World War.

  • That would be a big change
  • Europe has to integrate with Russia to compete with GS: USA and China
  • The world is moving towards Globalization 2.0: are we ready for that?
  • Finland as a small economy has to learn to adapt, to be flexible, and operate in niches

Today, organizations are under great pressure to do more with less. Reducing costs and risks, increasing revenue, and optimizing asset utilization are three key areas where Open Innovation and Collaboration can help. But how well do we understand the benefits and opportunities of Open Co-creation? What's your opinion?

VMworld 2009: What is virtualization? ZDNet's Sam Diaz asks show attendees At VMworld 2009 in San Francisco, ZDNet senior editor goes out with his Flip camera and asks show attendees what virtualization means to them. Do we discuss these things? Do we understand what it could mean for us? Where could it be applied in a smaller economy?

Netbooks are beginning to really eat away at the notebook market and are showing their greatest strength outside the U.S., according to a new report by market researcher DisplaySearch, a subsidiary of NPD Group. I thing Nokia is moving in the right direction. The big question is, what does Apple do at the end of the year. And when will Nokia start delivering? There is a new mobile war front emerging. The traditional mobile phone is YESTERDAY's technology. The giants are now looking for new growth segments. But Open Finnovation is more concerned about, how to use social media and Web 2.0, and mobile virtualization tools, telepresence, and all the new opportunities to innovate and to open up new market segments.

There are plenty of opportunities out here - opportunities to attract the type of clients and partners you love working with and who love working with you. Take advantage of #OpenFinnovation which is still in its infancy. Talk, talk, talk! - we need to transform this country to an Innovation Machine again.

According to The Economist, "a fundamental change is coming" -- and sooner than any of us ever imagined. Energy is a very big issue: In 1970, USA imported 24% of our oil. Today it's nearly 70% -- and growing. And although USA represent a mere 4% of the world's population, they use nearly 25% of its oil. The unfortunate truth is that North American's are hopelessly addicted to oil. And the readily available supply of that oil is becoming a serious question. How about us? Is bioenergy and nuclear power the way to go?

@visualradio I believe there is a big problem in open innovation. There is always people who want's to monitize their idea what they believe will be success. They don't want to share and let the idea grow 100 times bigger and better.

@Ile I fully agree with your comment. That's the way we used to work and think. But individual companies could still do their part in a networking environment. There are plenty of future problems that will require multitalented approaches. No single companies can grasp the whole. Here I see the opportunities of Open Innovation. I understand all those who are scared, bu still, I do insist, there are things we can do together much better than alone. Nokia's ecosystem is a semi-open innovation machine. SME's could do the same with Open Finnovation.

I give an example. We talk distributed CHP Tecnology for Russia. The big picture is heat and power at a local level based on the use of biomass and biowaste. The implementation could never happen without collaboration. No single force could do it alone (deliver the soolution). There are plenty of other infrastructure projects where coop is the only possible model. Still, all involved companies can focus on their own key competence.

@visualradio Can there be any rules for open innovation? Do we need rules?

Example: Group of companies and people goes through open innovation process. Ideas are great and finally they are ready to start implementing. In a meanwhile some of them (or some 3rd party just following process) has seen potential of an idea and has acquired a patent for that.

It's not fare. Is there any ways to avoid this?

@Ile when you go to your market square cafeteria or your corner pub you don't start to negotiate an NDA Before you start talking. You might have your agenda and exchange information with the people according to your own rules and values. If you don't trust the people, you drink your coffee and go away. You decide: open innovation isn't a sensitivity training seminar where you disclose all about yourself. You will probably open up more if you feel there is a win-win opportunity. Open Innovation is like pealing an onion. At the end you might have tears in your eyes, but the food tastes so much better!

Pure Open Innovation is probably possible only within a set of rules and common understanding. I think every person / company has to maintain its own integrity. There are certainly limits to the openness and I try to think about "the pragmatic". We always have to draw a line. At the final level it's like a poker game. But what about the NDA? How secure is it? Big companies make you tell your story within the guidelines of an NDA and they never make a contract. You told your story and you've keep your mouth shut. It's a great way of idea collection, isn't it?

Some very nice points. I would like to ask if you own a good reference about the global currency, better a complete as easy article. So, about energy, I would say the period frustrated by the oil is passed, solution and technologies already exist, are here, making oil as a plethora of things part of a certain life style, old, wrong, protected by the refuse to the change and an absurd business control. Then, with my declaration of love for London transport system, I see the problem becoming the switch to a rapid access and shared transport system against prehistoric urbanization choices, pushing all the rest to clean energy.

@DanieleBeta I try to find the article about global currency. Here is one in The Telegraph. It's true that cheap oil has taken us to a wear and tear lifestyle (consumerism). The next wave could be conservationism. We need to learn to conserve and re-cycle. Public transport and railways should and could be a part of a new lifestyle.

Let's hope that is here, on the grid and shared transportation, where the race to lead next future will be played and nothing about networking rather than.. http://tr.im/ytTI

Thanks for the nice article. Though, Confucius and frugality could be really of help.. and how many things could be done, eg. what a constant grid energy source could be the same motion energy of trains and vehicles beautifulling any ancestor faillure.

Got this from Facebook: The hierarchy of success. The roadmap to success should not be too complicated to interpret.

What do we need? Tony Puckerin thinks it looks like this:

1. Attitude
2. Approach
3. Goals
4. Strategy
5. Tactics
6. Execution

In my opinion, it's the the number 6. that's the real challenge especially for #OpenFinnovation and Collaboration.

Attitude: takes some energy to get started

Approach: moving into position for collaboration

Goals: takes time in a open group environment

Tactics: when we know what we want and where to go, not so difficult

Execution: The Real Work Starts and Talk is Cheap!

I feel that the quality of "Listening parsimoniously and respectful" is important too and merit to be specified somewhere maybe around the root, or as the mother of attitudes and specified in all its broad attributes
