What can we learn from the history of innovation? One hundred years from now some of our best #OpenFinnovation are completely outdated.

@visualradio I think best we can learn from failures. On of them is the Aramis-project in Paris. There one tried to solve the hopes of individual needs with cheapness of public transport. They tried to build a private “metro”. It took a lot of money, but was a mission impossible.

@oaw Never heard about that. I like the Paris Public Transport system and feel it works quite well within a city of the size of Paris. Driving by car in Paris is not so bad either because of the Periferique. Most of all, I like to walk in Paris. The city is quite compact and there is always things to look at. Nevertheless, public transport is a great thing and the French "TGV = Train Grand Vitesse." Our Pendolino's are much slower. Maybe VR should make one fast line up to Lappland and a second from Turku to Moscow.

@visualradio Bruno Latour has written a book of that case. (Sometimes I think that there was some same features in Makropilotti in Finland. As a Project...)

@oaw I,ve been in mobile mode the last two weeks and didn't have much spare time for the #OpenFinnovation brainchild. However, I've been digging in fiber optics for small towns and rural areas, working with wind mill study for the Loviisa region, and lurking at two third generation technology & business park projects with my architect friend in Lahti. In addition, we try to find a way into more distributed heat and power production both in Finland and across the border to Russia. My plan was to have time to focus on our Chattanooga choo choo to Oulu, but I hope to get back on track in a short while.

@DanielBeta How about you? Tell about your short term innovation history. It would be great to know what happens on the globe. Let's get started with a digital story telling thread.

@visualradio I have understood from @hyväelämä s references that the trip will move to better date because of network issues. I wait for more information from him or you or anyone in near future.

@oaw That's rigth. The next possible time would be in January but no new voting has been arranged. It's good to do a proper home work. I see a positive evolution in some of our discussion threads. Real home brewed innovations are emerging and I look forward to the trip.

More than innovation I think to be on self ''enlightenment'', anyway..I just ended this interesting book The medium is the Massage, McLuhan, while -finishing? a discrete cycle around ''security''. I think that few persons have still to realize, or stop to refuse, the presence of Internet, the other - as individual http://tr.im/D1m0, some existent social chains and paradigms - and I'm not an economist, and wondering how-much-they-will-need-for-that-change? So, yesterday, I read an interesting article about John Cass, an important figure for the East of London, here. I would like to gather more eligible time to learn about London culture, any good reference? I did put my eyes also on the press freedom and the position of England and Finland, it seems good, and the true situation? On China, where they have blocked also the tor network, last period for me has been a bit more practical, on helping @QianQian on setting up her trading business as on Qaiku..that could turn in a nice EU search engine - thiss actually a necessity? but don't cry, otherwise Twitter turned under BinG Google is to sign its The End? About transportation, is there any plan to expand the airport of Helsinki or better its interchange area?

@DanieleBeta, You presented several questions, I try to start with bottom-up. The Helsinki Airport wants to become a hub towards Asia: Japan, China, India, etc. Finnar has invested a lot in fleet capacity but the recession is hurting Finnair like all other airline companies. They would need to cut costs but the crew personnel and the captains are not ready to respond. I've no idea about what the Helsinki airport is doing to expand the interchange areas. Is there a better expert around?

An aspect that we can learn from the history of innovation is the missed care for disabled people till now and that London, leading, deserves astonishingly well, and astonishingly because this is the kind of "socialism" that make you clean and so, sincerely happy.

Here in Nordic countries we have had quite lot innovations for disabled people. There is such an institution were one enable those kind projects in Finland
http://www.stakes.fi/EN/Aiheet/disabi...
And in Pohjois-Karjala (a part of Finland) there has been special group of firms doing cluster work together http://www.isak.fi/index.html. Of course this has happened in short period of time (20 years).

@DanieleBeta Innovation has been focused on the mainstream, the average man / womand, middle class, but the big challenges of the society is going to be how we are going to take care of the poor, disabled, elderly and people with lesser resources. Do we've the mental and ethical capabilities for doing that? As long as innovation focuses on "what's good for business" we clean the table for the more essential question: "what's good for our people and society?"

Did you mean that we need to get a new mindset to understand the importance of really important issues for a humanistic society? How long is the road ahead before we get down to the real thing?

A reality - a reality that u cant wish to wonder about ever is probably the search for a new west modesty. Indeed something showed off at East, through "The Chinese Dream"? by Beijing ''condemned'' to be the mum of all china http://tr.im/CMto supporting everyone and all, and the more poor migrants http://tr.im/CMwe, by the messed train literally unserveable, but all sharing, respectful http://www.zooomr.com/z/photos/zoom/8... of some basic, egalitarians principles, without condition and any plausible or limiting estimate, a surreal as easy fraternity and modesty taught. Turning on business, we can state that the mass-market is also a nice target or, better, condition to own, no?

@DanieleBeta I try to grasp the idea of "new west modesty". It would be a great idea. How distant are we from that goal?
