if @janole implements Qaiku in Gravity, how many purchases of Gravity can we offer him?

Like carrotmob, but for features, not environment :) Is there a name for this, i guess this happens in the FOSS -world. Anyhow we'd need to set the specifications, so @janole can decide to take the deal or not. Also specs are needed to satisfy the deal.

My proposal: must have adequate support for threads (1 level of hierarchy, twitter has 0), channels like Twitter searches.

Location not required. Not very used in Qaiku. Jaiku r.i.p., i sure don't mind the idea of location awareness but some cell-id or gps is the way to go with that.

What else? I think that's about it for now. There aren't going to be very many people joining this microcampaign, so we cannot ask too much. I already paid for Gravity, what does that make of me? I'm crowdsourcing ppl on Qaiku to invest in features i would like to see in a program i like and hope others would like too. I'm a weasel or a hero? Bit of both, i hope :)

I think #Nemein can commit to some 3-5 licenses. I have iPhone, but the rest of the crew uses S60

I thought the Gravity support was under work already, @samikki qaikued about it some time ago .

Hopefully it will happen; at least the implementation should be relatively easy for @janole as the api is compatible with the twitter api. We have had some minor bugs with the api, but @bergie has fixed 'em.

edit: in that thread i linked at least @samikki and @jal were interested on buying Gravity.

bergie

@eholmila if I understood correctly, there was a little complication related to the fact that Twitter uses integers for message IDs and we use GUIDs in #Qaiku-api. With most applications this isn't an issue, and that way our clients avoid issues like twitapocalypse.

The other thing is that Midgard GUIDs are replication safe unlike IDs, which will be good if Qaiku needs to scale to multiple servers or start providing some Midgard-based offline clients.

Okay, so the Gravity would need a bit more tweaking to get it working with Qaiku? In that case let's hope that @janole will see it worth of his time and all the interested ppl will show up here as well. I might be interested to get one as well, but i have to take a bit deeper look at it first.

And needles to say, i think we will gladly assist with the questions related to api and so and try to make the implementation as easy as we in any way can.

@eholmila yeah i remember qaiku-support has been rumoured of before. I was one who said i'll buy Gravity if Qaiku gets implemented.

I haven't seen any verification of the support being implemented, and a little encourage is maybe needed :) We will also hopefully hear if Qaiku is not in the plans of @janole.

I want to put (at least a little part of) my money where my mouth is as support little projects, and buying software from the net. I'm not being an FOSS-fundamentalist this time. And honesty i think Gravity is a nice program indeed.

mace commented on posted to #Qaiku 26.06.2009 (en)

jal

@eholmila, yes I kind of promised. I do not buy it because of Twitter, but because of Qaiku I might - if it will give at least some extra feature compared to m.qaiku.com ...

jal commented on posted to #Qaiku 26.06.2009 (en)

mcastel

@mace agree, Gravity is very nice. I'm using it on a N73 phone and it's really great software (and not too expensive, moreover). To have Qaiku support on Gravity would be a dream, to me..... :-)

mcastel commented on posted to #Qaiku 26.06.2009 (en)

trm

same as @jal . And I believe that qaiku support for existing gravity users would be good client servicing, which is important too. Maybe it's even important with software, which license system is based on imei locking, so people will buy it again when switching a phone.

trm commented on posted to #Qaiku 26.06.2009 (en)

mace

@trm personally i think imei-locking and closed source are forms of fascism. But i can live with that since it's only going to costs the price of a (lousy) pizza. I guess i'm getting old... ;)

mace commented on posted to #Qaiku 26.06.2009 (en)

mandrl

I'd buy it. I haven't tried the software yet, and I'm not really a Twitter user, but it's inexpensive and seems nice.

BTW: if were asking for kind-of-donations here, should someone re-qaiku this in Finnish?

mandrl commented on posted to #Qaiku 26.06.2009 (en)

trm

@mace I completely agree with you. On the other hand I can donate to foss devs and buy inexpensive and good software if the need and functionality can be justified. Like Gravity. It seems so not S60 software and works like a charm, but I don't have use for it without Qaiku support. Still the imei locking sucks badly but it's understandable for mobile software and when the price isnt too high.

trm commented on posted to #Qaiku 26.06.2009 (en)

mace

@mandrl i'm not so keen on Twitter myself, and if we'll get a nice mobile client for Qaiku, i might stop using Gravity for Twitter and use it only for Qaiku. Of course Twitter has some advantages too, like a wider user-base and a better known brand.

mace commented on posted to #Qaiku 26.06.2009 (en)

mace

@trm i need a method to donate to foss and other goodness. Are you using PayPal or what would be the best method. I cannot believe i'm not already doing that kind of thing on the net.

mace commented on posted to #Qaiku 26.06.2009 (en)

trm

@mace Yep. Paypal seems to be most common method. Almost every foss-project hassi Pyapal's donate button. I'm in the process of listing projects for which I will donate sooner or later. The most important criteria is how usefull the project hassi been for me:)

trm commented on posted to #Qaiku 26.06.2009 (en)

Valentine

Paypal does not support all countries :(

Valentine commented on posted to #Qaiku 26.06.2009 (en)

trm

@valentine Are there other viable alternatives?

trm commented on posted to #Qaiku 26.06.2009 (en)

eholmila

Actually just realised that Gravity could have a quite good market opportunity with qaiku users as the majority of users are finns == majority of users use s60 phones == native s60 client without any competition would be at the minimum in quite good position to sell more than a few units.

who? me selling and marketing qaiku opportunity here? nooooo :)

eholmila commented on posted to #Qaiku 26.06.2009 (en)

bergie

@eholmila good point, for a Finnish audience the Qaiku - S60 connection is probably much more relevant than Twitter.

BTW, did anybody try the Qaiku bot with some S60 Jabber client yet? Fring for instance

bergie commented on posted to #Qaiku 26.06.2009 (en)

lintsu

I promise to buy Gravity, if it will support Qaiku!

lintsu commented on posted to #Qaiku 26.06.2009 (en)

mcastel

@lintsu me too !! Well ok, given that I've already bought it... not too difficult for me... :-)

PS I would like to make clear that, in spite of using a s60 phone, still I am NOT finns (ping @eholmila) :-)

mcastel commented on posted to #Qaiku 26.06.2009 (en)

Kusti

Btw, is there already an iphone client under way? Or any known attempts to integrate Qaiku to some existing Twitter clients?

Kusti commented on posted to #Qaiku 26.06.2009 (en)

eholmila

@kusti, not that we know of. But as said, if there's a twitter client for iphone or any other device out there, it shouldn't be to difficult for the devs of that client to implement a qaiku version of it.

@mcastel, haha :P

eholmila commented on posted to #Qaiku 26.06.2009 (en)

Kusti

I'll probably buy gravity too if it starts supporting Qaiku, unless I buy 3G S this summer... and there are high odds of that :)

Kusti commented on posted to #Qaiku 26.06.2009 (en)

samikki

little late, but I've already bought Gravity so it's go-ahead from here.

samikki commented on posted to #Qaiku 29.06.2009 (en)

I would most probably buy it for my E90 :)

any hope?

It is a rumour, maybe someone should ask him to confirm or deny it.

@alexz you're correct. pingpong @janole, i'll tweet you too with this url.

myrtti

oh god, I just downloaded and installed Gravity demo and I love this! If only there'd be Qaiku support... (in the meantime, goes back to work and on coffee breaks fiddles with her own mobile start page that already has qaiku support)

I'd buy it.

myrtti commented on posted to #Qaiku 30.07.2009 (en)

bergie

Sent another email to @janole to check if the issue he had with API (using Midgard GUIDs instead of integers for message IDs) still is a blocker, and whether we should do something with it on the #Qaiku-api end.

bergie commented on posted to #Qaiku Helsinki, Finland 30.07.2009 (en)

dsample

I tried it a while ago and liked it, I'd certainly consider it, as at the moment I'm using Twibble for basic Twitter-only stuff, but it just sends you to the web every chance it gets which is poor.

dsample commented on posted to #Qaiku Huntingdon, UK 30.07.2009 (en)

lintsu

I would spend more than 10 euros to Gravity if it would support Qaiku. How much @janole needs to whole to do this?

Count me in.

It seems nothing has happened with this, so created a request to Gravity feedback forum. Go and vote !
