Multiple accounts. There are, however, only so many different emails and IPs for your average person to set up, and so many patterns of behavior.

Sometimes restaurants have had "wars" where they write nasty reviews about each other, but that's been pretty obvious too. Accusations that no normal customer would have, eg. about veropetos, etc. Or a really nasty review about one place, and a super-high one about a direct competitor.

@spongefile @eholmila Ja mielenkiinnosta kysymys molemmile: Kuinka paljon menee ajasta/koodista roistojen nappaamiseen vs. oikeaan kehittämiseen?

@Ile We have a bunch of systems in place that make it easier.

1. Anonymous reviewers can only write one review per restaurant per IP
2. Registered users have their review amounts visible
3. Registered users can rate reviews up/down. If a review gets enough - votes, it's removed.
4. Total ratings aren't raw averages, but are calculated with an emphasis on what the majority thinks. So a restaurant with really low ratings is going to have to add a LOT of totally opposite ratings to change the weight to where he wants it. As he increases the number of fake reviews, the chances of other reviewers finding them suspicious and voting them down also increases. Eventually we have a look, and if it's bad enough, we will exact a Consequence.

We haven't had a reason to use the Consequence yet, but we do now. Stay tuned.

But if they can't cook, maybe their expertise is knowing how to get around #1...
Still sounds pretty good concept for keeping reviews ok.

@Ile Well, a bunch of anonymous crazy high reviews also looks suspicious, esp. if followed by a few registered reviewers with 20+ reviews each saying "huh?". :)

Nothing is bulletproof, of course, but we do our best.
