You can use VLC media player](http://tinyurl.com/c7pxa8)) for instance. Or xvidcap. I would recommend xvidcap.

how do i use vlc for screen recording? will have to investigate that. ;)

ok. partly managed to do it. :) probably didn't set it up very well, but could create some video. (although it was mostly grey and only sometimes i could si some window)

Just Media->Convert/Save->Capture Device->Capture mode->Desktop Then save and setup options.

i've uses VLC to both capture and broadcast....

the hard part is to fine tune the codecs
