Facebook is going to right direction: you can create groups and limit your visibility seperately for those. Though, it's behind hard work.

From the perspective of my study I'm also interested in the role of reputation in this: if there will be a single identity for everyone in the web, will there also be a single reputation? That would not be without problems, because reputation often means different things in different contexts. http://bit.ly/70FwW
