"design is a key part of innovation not just beautifying product development"

Focus groups as open innovation? => we listen to people, but who shapes the questions
troppone commented on posted to #seminaarikannu 02.10.2009 (fi)
=> participatory design, bring them into the process! Philips calls this multiple encounters approach

Nokia views (open innov. director)
- why: convergence, lifecycles, adoption etc. fast => necessity
- what is: sourcing knowledge (in-flow, mainly academic) - WHY NOT "PEOPLE"!?
- "openness and interaction knobs" mentioned
- value: 5 dimension measurement: publications and patents increase
- future? open innovation will become integral part of functioning, we won't talk about it anymore
This seems very traditional, industrial way of thinking...not radical.

audience as well as the Philips guy mentioned that yes MindTrek is VERY traditional and not innovative (not participatory, getting wisdom of the crowds involved etc.)
troppone commented on posted to #seminaarikannu 02.10.2009 (fi)
"wisdom of crowds works best when the system benefits from incremental improvement" (I don't think this is true...)
