e.g. sidewalks etc. become in fact resources with Open API's, scriptability etc.
troppone commented on posted to #seminaarikannu 02.10.2009 (en)
things that build our cities, are not anymore just building -blocks. in future, when you can query any object on the street, we are living in a network of resources.
simison commented on posted to #seminaarikannu 02.10.2009 (en)
We understand our cities trough information what we can get to our hands. Before it was hard to find or read. Not anymore, things are getting more open.

When we have huge amount of information available, we go from browse urbanism to search urbanism. Like finding a good bar/restaurant for you - we ask from services like google.

yeah thankns @touqo this is a public data thing, too
troppone commented on posted to #seminaarikannu 02.10.2009 (en)
We're going to be able to "read our cities better" with more open and available information, right? How are we going to interact with the more "readable urban structure" and interact with buildings and things (thing-links, sensors)? Any ideas how our behavior will change? Who benefits? Commerce or the citizen or the society?

@simison, from Twitter by @asmunder: Adam Greenfield just pretty much described the http://Eat.fi search in his presentation. ;) #mindtrek

big cities have always provided anonymity. but no more, because of search urbanism.

Augmented reality wayshowing would be so much more useful abroad, when it also is damn expensive still.. :(
Gnomet commented on posted to #seminaarikannu 02.10.2009 (en)
wayfinding ==> wayshowing. This is reality now. What happens when networks collapse and technology fails? Do we know spaces that well anymore? Can we survive anymore without this technology?
You can have this feeling just by going to Russia. :-) Or Africa... things are not mapped that well than in Finland.
simison commented on posted to #seminaarikannu 02.10.2009 (en)
By expensive I mean the mobile data transfer. Wlans are good, but not very suitable for this kind of moving from place to place -scenario.

@touqo it would be really interesting to study why the CCC has not picked up in Fin, and what would they need to do...was it just a matter of timing.
troppone commented on posted to #seminaarikannu 02.10.2009 (en)
@gnomet @kusti it really should be just kassi.org (it's a HUGE difference, sizl is so hard to remember...)

troppone commented on posted to #seminaarikannu 02.10.2009 (en)
@troppone You are probably right! Maybe it should be even kassi.fi at this point. We'll have to speak a little for that in the project. I think the sizl in the url doesn't help very many to find the frame project info anyway.. (and most don't even care.. :)

Stepping outside from your comfort zone makes your life better. I try to practise this all the time.
We where chatting about this in Finnish some weeks ago in Qaiku. Didn't find it though...
simison commented on posted to #seminaarikannu 02.10.2009 (en)
Linda Stone continuous partial attention mentioned
troppone commented on posted to #seminaarikannu 02.10.2009 (en)
I also think that it is even strange how generaly it is true that stepping out from your comfort zone almost always makes you feel good about the step afterwards.
Gnomet commented on posted to #seminaarikannu 02.10.2009 (en)
Q: nature of attention in the future?
A: interactions will be programmed to "disturb", this will cause needs for e.g. regulations, negotation is needed
on the other hand, focused attention people will have some competive advantage
troppone commented on posted to #seminaarikannu 02.10.2009 (en)

H&M Helsinki Clearchannel ad mentioned (vs. London)
"JND" mentioned (just noticable difference)
It feels better, catches still attention, London is too flashy and annoying!
This is an example of mutual respect
troppone commented on posted to #seminaarikannu 02.10.2009 (en)
I also saw the H&M ad and also found it very fascinating because I first thought it as a static ad and then noticed only the leaves moving and that it was a screen after all.
Gnomet commented on posted to #seminaarikannu 02.10.2009 (en)
In London as Beijing the family name is not showen on the door, also if "open".. often is missing the property number, this is a problem.
In the big cities of today you support the other, this is both human and ecological, but few academy.
About anonymity, big world provides it when you haven't the attention of someone, and you can get it..
The train floods: http://tr.im/AqvZ but forget to pop up the stereo, either the phone.
The handleds could talk, better: twitt to the sensors and this could be amazing if u are blind or messed. Indeed personal, but public service must lead.
