Common model is: post is made on twitter, and comments go to friendfeed. Actually, I don't know of better commenting and feed-sharing app than friendfeed.

For orivate channels, Yammer is really nice (Air application and iPhone-app make it extremely easy to use)

Quaiku looks interesting as a common platform, when you want to have everything in one place. I will try to use it, though ;)

@indeyets yeah, you can almost make Twitter useful, but it requires a jigsaw puzzle of external tools. I think in the end I want only one site to follow and contribute to.

Twitter has kinda became a 'protocol'. But it's a very sucky one indeed.

I'm seriously tired of checking multiple services (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn...) to read what people are up to. I tried doing that for a while and eventually ended up using only twitter since it's the most popular and has best tools (ie. iPhone app).

@mdk Gwibber and Mauku are the "Pidgins" of the microblogging world. Maybe a nice multi-service client for iPhone would be the ultimate solution?

Of course, OpenMicroBlogging federation might solve the problem on service level, but since that hasn't really happened with IM either I'm not too hopeful.

In any case, I have some ideas on how Qaiku could be made to act as a client to the other services so you could live with only one site to follow regardless of where your contacts are.

Good post. The point now is, Twitter is a standard; but not always the standards are the best solution: I second you in the fact the the conversation model of Twitter (and Identi.ca, at the times writing) is really poor.

I'll remain very interested in the evolution of Quiku, it seems to start from the right point...

the problem is: friendfeed looks soooo much better

@indeyets beauty is in the eye of the beholder :-)

But seriously, I'm sure the Qaiku guys would appreciate other mock-ups than their current Jaiku lookalike UI.

Anyway, I feel distracted and confused by all those features. Professional profile on LinkedIn, some social blurbs on FB, Jaiku, Oaiku, Dopplr, Trippit and dozens of social sites that eat my time. Sometimes I miss days when e-mail was sufficient and fast enough.

Funny, I've stayed out of Friendfeed because I've found the interface too ugly. :)

@spongefile i'm the same, probably because i saw Jaiku first, and got used to the pretty :)

In fact there was a comment on the Linked-In Jaiku, that someone found the Brightkite interface attractive.
Really had to hold back there, as the few times i have used it, the interface has always felt clunky, and location is not a Social-Object

@solt i was reaching the same sort of state, so as i had seen it a few times, i downloaded Graphviz and mapped out all the "social-media" thingers i use if they are connected (i did not bother so much with the others, as they need to alert via email). The result is here if you are interested

I use to be a big fan of Jaiku and never really warmed up to Brightkite, FriendFeed or Rejaw. Oddly enough, I'm now become quite active on Twitter and have become use to its limitations and enjoy the short conversations there. I started using it as my news feed first but have now build up a nice community and log on to it first before I check Facebook. When using Jaiku I was online more but now I don't feel like I have to know where everyone is all the time.

Let's see how this thing develops

BUGabundo

this reminds me of when I wrote
http://laconi.ca/trac/wiki/BUGabundo/...

it would be great to have some kind of IM client that would µ/blog in p2p based on XMPP pubsub, and add the ability to "upload" the content to federated servers
