of future's computing platforms MeeGo is the only one I like. Apple is too closed, Microsoft too Microsoft, Android too "our way or highway"

...obviously based on the little we know of MeeGo so far, plus my experiences with Maemo and Moblin so far

I concur. This seems to be the only believable productized mobile platform. There is Openmoko ofcourse but it's been a while.

Which way from the highway of Android are Motoblur, HTC's sense or Sony's "UX"? I find Android so far the most promising with HTC on boat actively developing both hw and sw marriage.
Meego sounds good too, but it's way head in the future. Nokia's situation ATM is unbearable. Maemo is "in the works" (the 5 is everything but ready), as well as the real touch generation of Symbians - and I've heard that the upcoming ^3 is not the answer to "Are we there yet?" either.

I switched from N900 to Android. Not looking back in anger, but I really feel Nokia has too much in the oven, and the two buns that are out are either way too burned (S60) or way too raw (Maemo5).

@lindstorm Android is completely its own environment, you have to build for Google's virtual machine. MeeGo will (as Maemo and Moblin already do) allow you to leverage the whole Linux desktop stack, from integrated "communications as a service" Telepathy service for VoIP and IM to different programming languages as UI toolkits.

And yeah, part of my animosity towards Android comes from the point that I've promised not to touch Java while sober ;-)
