Just wanted to say the same as @smallone , why not run your own XMPP-server? Even I do so ;) Openfire is what I use, afaik most versatile of them :) Also way more control over whole deal than on any external service...

One thing I miss most in Qaiku (from Jaiku) is XMPP/jabber notification system... Much better in many cases to use IM system than webpage
